Why Diets Don’t Work & What To Do About It

There is a reason why diets don’t work.

Yes they help for a few weeks. But after that you’ll return back to your old ways (along with your weight).

Why?

Your brain hates feeling deprived. Simple

When you’re on a diet you deny yourself of the things that you enjoy.

Eventually that feeling of deprivation leads to binge-eating.

It’s not just your psychology that is involved, but your hormones too.

A recent study showed that restrictive diets change your levels of leptin and ghrelin, leading to massive increases in appetite.

I have personally experienced all of the above.

Trust me, going on a diet is not the best way to lose weight or get healthier.

So What’s The Solution?

Train yourself to enjoy healthy food!

That means no feelings of being deprived will come up.

If you genuinely enjoy healthy food, cutting out junk food becomes EASY.

You’ll be able to walk into a cafe and ignore the cakes and biscuits.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Start By Educating Yourself About Nutrition

Foods are called “healthy” because they contain nutrients that help the body to function properly, heal and grow.

They improve your quality of living. You’ll feel alert, your energy will be boosted and your skin will look more vibrant.

Surely you want the best nutrients for your body?

Knowing the health benefits will cause you to like that food more

Realise That Nutritious Food Is Medicine

Fruits and vegetables prevent and reduce the risk of diseases. By definition, that makes them medicine.

You don’t want to get any diseases do you?

Eat nutritious food now as medicine, or eat medicine later for disease

Start By Making Small Changes In Your Diet

Replace your snack chocolate bar with a banana. Do that for 7 days straight and it’ll become a habit.

Put less sugar in your tea.

Rather than ordering a takeaway once a week, make the small effort of learning to cook a simple meal.

Week by week, pick one eating habit and make an easy change to it

This way you won’t feel deprived, and your mind won’t trick you into cravings.

Instead you will create new healthy habits over the weeks.

Keep the changes small, and they will be easy to maintain.

Learn The Consequences Of Eating Junk Food

If the benefits of healthy food aren’t enough to make you like them, disliking unhealthy foods will help.

Last year, The Independent reported:

Unhealthy food is the biggest cause of early death worldwide

It is a tragedy to live a shorter life because you ate too much junk food.

Junk food clogs your blood vessels, impairs your organs and literally kills you over time.

Are takeaways, cakes and chocolates really worth that price?
